Preparation of Formula Milk

Before Starting

Wash your hands and clean the surface that you are going to use before starting to make your baby’s bottle.

Type of Water

Use fresh tap water, not bottled, artificially softened or water that has been boiled previously. Once boiled, the water will be allowed to cool for no more than 30 minutes, so that it remains at a temperature of at least 70° to kill any bacteria in the formula powder.

Manufacturer's Instructions

Follow the manufacturer's instructions and pour the amount of water you need into the sterilised bottle first, whilst it is still hot, before adding the powdered formula. Different tins of formula come with different scoops, so please make sure that you only use the scoop that comes with the formula. Once opened, most tins of powdered baby formula should be used within one month, stored in a cool, dry place. Do not store it in the refrigerator.

Cool the Milk

This freshly prepared formula should then be cooled down, by running it under a cold tap to the required temperature for your baby.

Storage

You should discard any unused milk after 1 hour, once you start feeding. You can keep formula at room temperature for up to 2 hours, in a cool bag with an ice pack for up to 4 hours and in the fridge for 24 hours.
