Hypnobirthing

Hypnobirthing is fast becoming the new way to labour and birth. The reason being is that mothers feel positive, empowered and in control, so why wouldn’t you do it.

What picture comes into your head when you think of hypnobirthing?

I can guess you are probably thinking of someone being put under a hypnotic state where they lose control of their actions. We have all seen people act in crazy ways on TV doing silly things that are just embarrassing.

However, hypnobirthing is a lot different from this, yes it is an altered state but you are very much in control. That is why the power of hypnobirthing is becoming so very popular.

Hypnobirthing is a birthing method that uses self-hypnosis and relaxation techniques to help a woman feel physically, mentally and spiritually prepared and reduce her awareness of fear, anxiety and pain during childbirth. (Mayo clinic).

The great thing about hypnobirthing is the spiritual journey a mother goes through during her birth. You can see a change in her as she progresses through the stages, it is just so calming and inspiring to see.

What are the benefits of Hypnobirthing?

Non-invasive method of pain relief Easy to learn Great way for a birth partner to really get involved Calm and relaxing Positive experience Decreases the chance of needing pain relief Great way to prepare your body/mind for birth Can be used in combination with many other birthing techniques.

Research examining the benefits of hypnobirthing is mixed. However, some research suggests that Hypnobirthing might be more effective than other interventions at reducing labour pain.

I have personally used hypnobirthing in both of my labour’s, and I can tell you that I found it so rewarding. My partner and I went to hypnobirthing classes with our first baby which gave us so much confidence to birth exactly how we wanted too.

The techniques that we learned together helped me focus, breathe properly and get myself into the zone. I can honestly say that if it wasn’t for Hypnobirthing then I probably would have had an epidural.

That’s the great thing about hypnobirthing, you are not doing it on your own, your partner is so involved in the labour and birth which is so refreshing. A lot of women nowadays feel that they need their partner to be involved, but the partners do not know how. Which is why Hypnobirthing is so great, as it prepares you to become parents together on a much deeper level.

Finally, if you are on the fence as to whether you should choose to Hypnobirthing or not, there really is no reason to be as there are only positive things that can come from it. Prepare yourself, and you will be astounded at what you can do with the power of hypnobirthing.

There are many places to educate yourself on hypnobirthing either online or via workshops. The most popular is The Morgan Method, there official website is https://us.hypnobirthing.com.
